“My offer to Google Reader”
Kevin Fox at fox @ fury: And so I put my resources where my mouth is. As the former lead designer for Google Reader, I offer my services to Google, rejoining for a three month contract in order to restore and enhance the utility of Google Reader, while keeping it in line with Google’s new visual standards requirements. I will put my current projects on hold to ensure that Google Reader keeps its...

Missing the point of WikiLeaks →
Will Wilkinson of The Economist: With or without WikiLeaks, the technology exists to allow whistleblowers to leak data and documents while maintaining anonymity. With or without WikiLeaks, the personel, technical know-how, and ideological will exists to enable anonymous leaking and to make this information available to the public. Jailing Thomas Edison in 1890 would not have darkened the night....

Instapaper Blog: Instapaper 2.3 for iPhone and... →
One of the apps I can’t live without just got even better. The developer (Marco Arment) has an insatiable desire to polish this app to perfection. The guy added a location aware feature to check sundown times in the area and automatically switch to dark mode for night time reading. Genius. instapaper: This is a major update with many improvements and fixes. The first change you’ll notice...

The Design of Windows Phone 7
Microsoft has had quite the month with their Windows Phone 7 event. The first handsets have been released in Europe and are set to come out next month in the US. I wanted to touch on the design (or lack thereof) in Microsoft’s new consumer-savvy OS. It looks good. I’ll admit that. When I first saw it back in February, I thought it looked fantastic. They implemented a UI paradigm I...

TechCrunch: Android Is As Open As The Clenched... →
I don’t normally agree with TechCrunch articles, but they nailed it with this one. With the iPhone, Apple became the first cell phone manufacturer to finally get out from under the stranglehold of the carriers. They opened the door for other manufacturers to release phones that were not limited or de-featured by the carriers. Makers of Android devices have been making every mistake to undo that...

As We Wave Goodbye
This post is a little late, but I wanted to formally say goodbye to Google Wave. A service years ahead of its time with a few major short-comings that held it back. When Wave was debuted at Google I/O 2009, it immediately caught my eye. Finally, a much needed update to the archaic system of email. The problem with email has always been that it is just a digital emulation of the physical postal...

Looney Tunes Returns! →
Best news I’ve heard all day. The clip looks good, although the new CGI doesn’t have quite the same charm as the old hand drawn animations. But I think I’m being overly nostalgic there.

BlackBerry Announces the Torch with OS 6 →
Apparently RIM thinks a measly 624 MHz processor is sufficient for a “flagship” device. Not to mention the 3.2 inch screen with a resolution of 480 x 360. The best part has to be BlackBerry OS 6: an operating system that was outdated before it was even released.

Epic Win →
A fantastic new concept for a GTD/todo list meets RPG style iPhone app. Takes the “Xbox Live Achievements IRL” idea and runs with it, giving you a character with skills/attributes to upgrade as you complete self-set tasks.

I look for people who are driven and passionate about something. People are much more interesting when they are obsessed with a particular interest. Of course, basic things like honesty, a good sense of humor, etc. also apply. Ask me anything, you may.

Today was my first real day in LA
And it was fantastic. Apart from going to Disneyland, this is the first time I’ve visited LA without any family. Just friends. It’s been wonderful to just be able to relax and take things at my own pace. I got a tour of UCLA today from my friend Brett, and I was blown away. The parties at night were awesome. And I’ve still got 5 days left.

John Gruber's "How Apple Rolls" →
An insightful piece on Apple’s methods of product development and enhancement. Things to take away from this: Slow, steady, and polished wins the race New features/updates do not diminish the value and perception of the previous iteration of the product Change is gradual and incremental, but dramatic over time If you liked this article, check out Gruber’s blog Daring Fireball. He knows...

Steam is finally coming to the Mac! (hopefully...) →
Over the past couple of days, Valve has been leaking out these teaser images of their own parodies of famous Apple ads. I really hope this pans out and that they bring their full line up as native, optimized ports, not just cider-style ones. Big name gaming has always been the one area where the Mac falls flat compared to the PC. While indie games have always thrived, it would be nice to finally...

What is the perfect age?
As I get older, I look back on the past as something much happier and simpler. At times, I feel like I want that life back. The one where my greatest trouble was how I was going to get that next Batman action figure. The concepts of money and higher education were still very foreign to me. On the other hand, I find that I have a greater appreciation for many things in life as I get older. Things...

I can't remember the last time I was this excited
About anything. Ever. Or at least a product launch. So tomorrow is the big day, when Apple will supposedly resurrect Jesus for the 3rd or 4th time; I’ve lost count. I remember the hype before the announcement of the iPhone was nowhere near the level that the tablet has received. I don’t even know what to write anymore. I doubt I’ll get much sleep tonight. Yes, I understand that I...

Apple Event confirmed for January 27 →
It’s hard to believe that after all these years of waiting, we may actually see the fabled Apple tablet. I know that tablet computing has been around for the better part of a decade now, but in my opinion it’s been quite disappointing since its inception. At this year’s CES in Las Vegas, I saw a large resurgence of tablet PCs-mostly due to the new OSes available (Windows 7, Android)....
